Biography
Dr. Leonhard Birnbaum serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Management at E.ON SE, one of Europe's largest energy companies with almost 70,000 employees and revenues exceeding €115 billion. Since taking the helm in April 2021, he has positioned E.ON as a leader in Europe's green energy transition, focusing on sustainable infrastructure and innovative customer solutions. Under his leadership, E.ON has invested almost €4 billion in energy transition initiatives over nine months in 2023, representing a 40% year-over-year increase, demonstrating the company's role as a pacemaker in European energy transformation. Beyond his executive role at E.ON, Dr. Birnbaum holds prominent positions in the European energy sector. He serves as President of Eurelectric, the European Electricity Association, where he advocates for balanced energy policies that protect customers while ensuring investor certainty. He is also Vice-President of the Executive Committee of BDEW (German Association of Energy and Water Industries), a member of the Executive Committee of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), and Vice Chair of the World Energy Council.
