SEAT S.A. (Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo) is Spain's leading automotive manufacturer and the only car company to design, develop, manufacture, and sell vehicles in Spain. Founded on May 9, 1950, as a joint venture between Spain's government-owned Instituto Nacional de Industria, Spanish private banks, and Italian manufacturer Fiat, SEAT has evolved into a cornerstone of Spanish automotive industry. Since 1986, SEAT has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, representing one of Europe's largest automotive conglomerates.
