Celanese Corporation is a global technology leader in the production of differentiated chemistry solutions and specialty materials, serving most major industries and consumer applications worldwide. Founded in 1918 by Swiss brothers Camille and Henri Dreyfus, the company originally began as American Cellulose & Chemical Manufacturing Company before adopting the Celanese name in 1927, combining 'cellulose' and 'ease' to promote their acetate yarn products. Today, Celanese operates through two primary business segments: Engineered Materials and Acetyl Chain. The Engineered Materials segment produces specialty polymers and advanced engineered materials including nylon and polypropylene compounds, high-temperature nylon, polyoxymethylene, and thermoplastic elastomers for automotive, medical, industrial, energy storage, and consumer electronics applications. The Acetyl Chain segment produces intermediate chemicals including acetic acid, vinyl acetate monomers, and acetyl products used in paints, coatings, adhesives, textiles, and packaging applications. With approximately 12,200 employees across over 50 manufacturing facilities in 27 countries, Celanese generated net sales of $10.3 billion in 2024. The company is one of the world's largest producers of acetic acid and acetyl derivatives, while also maintaining a leading position in specialty polymers for high-performance applications. Celanese's global operations span North America, Europe, and Asia, with its network including about 60 production facilities and nearly 20 strategic affiliate facilities.
